Included are two simple, but functional NTP configuration files and a sample script. This page is an addendum to the Time Synchronisation page which you should have already read.

Everything here should be taken as an example. If you blindy start running scripts and copying setup files you will likely do damage to your system. You and nobody else will be wholy responsible for that damage....

All three files have been converted from Unix text files to DOS .txt files for inclusion on this page. If you have sufficient expertise to be attempting an NTP setup then you will know what to do with these. If you don't, well you shouldn't even be reading this...

The script will not function without extensive modification. It has been included here as an example of what commands are needed to start NTP on a variety of Unix platforms. When it was written (1999) the script functioned correctly on SunOS4, Solaris 2.5/2.5.1/2.6, HP-UX 10.20, and Irix 6.2/6.4. More recently is has been found to work on Solaris 2.7, 2.8, and Linux Redhat 8.0.

The NTP binaries referred to below are NOT included owing to size considerations. These binaries are required for platforms where NTP is not shipped as standard - All SunOS4 variants, Solaris prior to 2.6, and Irix prior to 7.x. The binaries were built from NTP 4.0.92h, a later version of which is available from http://www.ntp.org/. That said I do seem to still have them so if you get really desperate I may be able to send them..

Author's Note: Whilst I hope somebody find this stuff useful, I am not particularly interested in it. In particular I am not going to field How do I...? or It doesn't work queries. If however anyone finds bugs, adds platforms or improvements then I'm quite happy to include them here with appriopiate attribution.

Everything you below this sentence is about 5 years old....

README File from source directory;

This directory contains binaries for several unix variants in
use at <sitename>

Also;

Where possible the standard NTP versions ( as shipped with OS )
have been used. This is true of Solaris versions 2.6 and above
and HP-UX 10.

For SunOS4 and Solaris 2.5.1 the shareware package "NTP 4.0.92h" has been
used.

For the SGI's the standard timed' process is disabled and NTP from
SGI's shareware site is used;
